‘Roots’ was a group exhibition by members of the Orkney-based Móti Collective, on display in the lead up to the Orkney Storytelling Festival and tying in with Visit Scotland’s theme for 2022, Scotland’s Year of Stories.
The collective with its dynamic mix of skills and experience has chosen to tell stories of where we are from and going, stories rooted in family, in tradition and in place. The title Roots takes some of the artists into the earth and the tales of the land and soil, with many using elements from the environment in their work. Some have followed more personal roots back through generations while others put roots down somewhere new and watch them grow into new stories.
With three new members joining the group for this, their first Móti exhibition, the collective continues to change and evolve with stories old and new, from near and far, and of past, present and future.
